about studio space

Glasgow Project Room

The studio operates an open plan system, creating an environment for support and dialogue. A broad spectrum of artists working in a variety of media creates a friendly and diverse community. Many successful artists who have worked in the studios have moved on to positions in further education like the Master of Fine Art courses in Glasgow School of Art, The Slade in London, Winchester, Barcelona, Norwich College of Art and undertaken exchanges and residences in Florence, Nantes, Copenhagen, Montreal and Vancouver.

To maximise benefits to the artists, the studios are very cost-effective and functional. The complex comprises three seperate studios; one on King Street, Parnie Street and Osbourne Street and occupy the top floor of a tenement-style factory in the Merchant City. Each studio has a communal space, telephone, and basic tools.

The main office provides access to a P.C. with Internet. With currently over 50 members, the studios are partitioned off to create a total of 40 individual spaces (3m x 4m) which are large enough to share. To apply for a studio, please contact us by email or telephone and you will be placed on a waiting list. Each applicant must demonstrate that: he/she has a commitment to being a visual artist, the studio will be used for artistic work and he/she is likely to meet rent payments. Artists working in all mediums can apply. Rent is paid monthly.
